Description

Put your ear next to Faucaria tigrina and you just might hear a faint roar. Faucaria tigrina (tiger jaws), native to South Africa, forms rosettes of thick, fleshy triangular grayish-green leaves. Leaves have many recurved soft translucent teeth along the margins. Large silky yellow flowers in the afternoon during the autumn months, closing each day by dusk. The genus Faucaria is part of the family Aizoaceae, which includes the various forms of plants known as ice plants and those known as mimicry plants. Less particular about water regimen than its mimicry brethren. Terrific for a windowsill, patio spot, or in a border where it can get shade in the afternoon.
